Halpati Seva Sangh,Bardoli (Gujarat, India), was established in 1961 under Bombay Public Trust Registration Act 1950.Its Registration No. is Surat E-1120. Twenty years have been passed to its establishment. The area of its operation is allover Gujarat state.
14% of the populations of Gujarat consists of the tribal. Amongst which the most exploited and suppressed are "Dublas". Their population is 7 lakes.
Halpatis are basically tribal farm
laborers. They have neither land or housing facility nor other means of
livelihood. They are landless laborers, who have to rely on farming. Even today they get merely rupees 20 to 25
daily. That too hardly for four months in a year i.e. seasonal employment.
Consequently, this community is economically, socially, educational & politically
backward. Mahatma Gandhi has honored then by naming them the "Halpati"-one who carries plough.
